January Writing Prompt Challenge: Day 3
Jan. 3rd, 2021 06:09 pmHaving a bit of a "hard to focus" day, so I'm going to unplug for a while this evening. But first!
DAY THREE PROMPT:
A child prodigy wants to unmask the conspiracy of an influential company, but they will have to turn against a mentor.
There are a few options on the agent card that could work - expert, virtuoso... for some reason I like "child prodigy" because it inherently gives more weight to the "turn against a mentor" thing. At first I was thinking that the mentor would be just an avatar of the company, the old "my master was evil all along!" betrayal kind of thing. But I think it would be more interesting if they weren't evil - maybe they're great, and turning against them for "the greater good" isn't made easier by them being conveniently evil. They're doing the best with what they have. They are going to be taken down with the ship. They are the one being betrayed.
What's the kid a child prodigy of? What does the company do or sell? I'm not sure what setting I want to see this story in. I feel like I've trended a bit more "fantasy" the past couple of days, so maybe something futuristic. Maybe it's a new technology that this child is a prodigy in. A tech company engaging in shady dealings? WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?
Anyway my five minutes are WAY up, so I'm putting this on the shelf. Maybe I'll come back to it later.
