Last week, I wrote this story as an entry for a local radio station's "two minute romance" contest. It's generic, it's cute and fluffy, and I figured it would appeal to the CBC's typical audience. I sent it in, thinking that I might have a chance of at least getting it read on-air, though probably not actually win outright.

The next day, I re-read the story and decide that it sorta sucks. I mean, it's all right, but it could be better. I resign myself to maybe rewriting it some day.

Today I get a message on the phone from the host of the show, saying that my story is going to be read this evening after the 5:30 news. I proceed to inform the necessary relatives - grandmothers and parents. Later I am sitting on the bus with a shit-eating grin on my face while I hear it performed to a Province-wide audience. I realize that if my definition of "sucks" is "radio-worthy", I might not be a failure as a human being after all.

And last but not least, I'm (somewhat amazingly) registered to go to this writing workshop next Wednesday. Boy, am I ever glad I'm midterm-free next week. (After Monday, anyway.) I'm extremely motivated now to keep working on my writing - actually turn out a story or two that I'm a little bit proud of, maybe actually start working on a screenplay or three. (As a long-term goal, I'm keeping this Fellowship in mind. I mean, why the hell not?)
