hmm...what DO i think about Aimwell and Archer taking control? perhaps, something about the middle class and their attempted assertion of power (wish fulfillment, perhaps..this IS fiction after all)...i suppose i shall have to figure this issue out seeing as I'm writing my term paper on the conflation of social classes in this play and The Beggar's Opera
i also agree that it is interesting how the divorce plot works...on the surface it seems to empower Mrs. Sullen by getting her out of a bad marriage, but on the other hand...she falls into the damsel in distress role (needing her brother to save her) and then "dancing" with Archer. Plus the fact that she has no power to obtain the divorce by herself but has to wait for her brother...and I almost just put "and waiting IS a theme in this play" but then I stopped myself and said "No, Coleena, that's Open Range" haha silly me
