Whoops, did I say I'd update this on... what, Saturday? And now it's Sunday. It's the last day of my work week, and I am mildly bloated and ache-y. I think I will use a "Get out of jail free" card and update properly tomorrow.

Something I'll jot down as a reminder to myself, though: I need to remember that this edit of the SF kids novel doesn't need to be even close to a finished version. I don't need to worry about the overall pacing too much, or whether I need to edit in a new sequence of events HERE or THERE, or anything like that. What I need is to clean up what I have. Getting bogged down in the nitty-gritty is for LATER. For now: first solid draft.

Though I've been slack on the editing, I HAVE got my requisite weekly short-story critting done for Critique Circle. I love that place.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a date with some honey brown beer, a hot-water bottle, and a good book.

There are private queues? Hrm. That sounds interesting. I joined CC mostly to read/crit short stories and get my short stories read/critted, and the vast majority of stuff on the public queues are "Story, Part 17" or "Chapter 6 of Novel X". I mean, I have nothing against novels or longer works, but I joined CC specifically for the short story angle.

Are the private queues invite-only? How do I wrangle myself onto one?

Yeah, that's a general concern that a lot of folks have - there are a LOT of novels-in-progress on the main queues. The trouble with the private queues is that you need to be a premium member to join multi-user queues (that is, queues where everybody can submit stories, instead of just the person who runs the queue submitting them.) There are also limits on the number of people who can be in a private queue, the limit is generally eight but the admins sometimes allow more. The short story queue I'm in has a max of 16 members and is usually full; inactive members are cycled out to make room for new, hopefully more active members. Stories come up for review WAY faster, too - usually the very next critique period after they're submitted.

Here's the info for this queue (you'll probably need to be logged in for the link to work):
