I submitted some stories to VOX, my school's literary journal. I significantly reworked a couple of them, and substantially touched up a couple more. I feel bad that I don't have anything RECENT or NEW to submit - I think the newest thing is two years old, minimum. However, I do feel that I have grown at least somewhat as a writer since then, and as such I was able to rework/edit the stories in a way that makes them much stronger. So I can't COMPLETELY bash myself.

But I can MOSTLY bash myself.

Having said that, though, I am really happy that I have finally submitted some stuff: I have gone over some things that I have written and, after some work, thought, "Yep, this is strong enough that I am not embarassed to show it to people - heck, I'm not embarassed to suggest that it might be publishable." I'm not fooling myself into thinking that VOX is a particularly difficult place in which to get published, but hey. It's something. And some of my profs, who are highly esteemed as writers in their own right, are going to be reading it. That's pretty cool.

Recently I recovered an old writing journal (long-hand) that I had been doing some writing in a couple of years ago. Apart from finding the end of one of the stories that I had wanted to submit to VOX (yay!) I found lots of story beginnings that I never fleshed out. I think December needs to be about revisiting these things - either picking them up again, or starting them over. And starting new ones, too, of course.

It's also time to actually start working my way through The Artist's Way. Morning pages are just going to have to become part of my daily routine, because I find them useful in a number of ways. They're almost meditative, though I guess they're the exact OPPOSITE of meditation because they're all about just splattering your thoughts all over the page however they want to come out. But it's a kind of purging that I find useful: I have a lot of useless thoughts and worries wandering around in my brain, and I like having a place to put them. It also gives me a reason to wake up at a certain time, which will help to keep me from getting depressed as I wait for next semester to start.

Another mini-project for this month: re-read Blue Goo, as it stands. I have a hard copy of it with lots of smaller details that I want to re-read as well, but I think it would be useful to just see exactly what kind of space it occupies just as it is. It's been a couple of years since I last read it, so this could be interesting.
