Ahh, [livejournal.com profile] wordwhacker. I've been neglecting you of late. After [livejournal.com profile] chibiakki stunned the crap out of me by pulling ahead and outright finishing the challenge on Sunday, I've not only been too busy to write, but a little put off on the idea. Probably because it's bringing back memories of the time I wrote 17,000 words in one sitting last year. The neck pain was awful. I need some phonebooks so my monitor will be at the right level with my, y'know, head.

I'm a bit behind pace again, though, so I'll have to get some writing done tonight. I think I'll make 20,000 words my goal for the end of the evening.

[livejournal.com profile] demonblade and [livejournal.com profile] chibiakki, y'all better be doing some serious writing on each of your new challenges. Only about 35 days to go to get 30,000 words in, remember!

Don't forget to eat, sleep, drink, y'know, all that good vital stuff?

17,000 words in one sitting? Christ, reminds me of pulling term papers out of thin air, Freshman year of college. Never again!

I pulled every paper I had to write in High School out of thin air... usually on the very very last day, well beyond the due date, with the threat of "If you don't hand it in by today, you get Zero." I would usually skip that day of school and write as many as four of these papers longhand, then run to school to type them up, print them, and hand them in before going home to collapse for an evening. (Drafts? What are those?) Or maybe work a shift at the coffee shop. Depending.

How did I manage to graduate with Honours, again? I must be a genius or something. Either that or really, REALLY good at BSing. Maybe there's a career in politics for me.

I've done more than my fair share of that, and each time, I swore it would be my last. I'm a bit ashamed to admit, I'm still guilty of doing it. I particularly excel at pulling oral presentations out of thin air - must be my bit of Irish blood & the gift of the gab!

I must be a genius or something. Either that or really, REALLY good at BSing. I think the two go hand-in-hand.

Maybe there's a career in politics for me. Or writing?

Or writing?

Well, you never know, I guess. I've never really looked at it as a serious possibility - except for maybe going down the scriptwriting route.

Sometimes I think that it would be easy to be a Writer with a Capital W, and other times I start thinking too much about what writing IS, and I start stumbling over the idea of how to use words to make characterization, plot, themes, etc, happen... And I freak out. *laughs*

And what percentage of W/writers do you think successfully make characterization, plot, themes, etc, happen?

(Of course, if I had my way, I'd have Martha Stewart's job)

Heh. Point. My problem is that I think about it too much. I mean, it can't hurt to have a clear idea of what you want to say, and try to have your themes and how to incorporate them figured out to some degree... But if I think about it to the point that I can't even write it to begin with? Not good. *laughs*
